Route 15 North Covered Bridges (and Springfield Manor Winery & Brewery) 10-17-20

There are many covered bridges in Frederick County, MD. It is well worth the time to find them! Listen to John Denver's "Take Me Home" and you'll really feel you're out in the country. :)

Take One-Peter

All of these bridges are painted red and really make for some great photography. (#loysstationcoveredbridge #roddyroadcoveredbridge #uticacoveredbridge) Loys Station is the biggest one that has ample parking, a children's playground and picnic tables which is nice. It's really cool seeing history like this so close to home.

Take Two-Emily

I loved going to see these bridges. They are beautifully made and just being inside them and looking at the designs of how they were made was intriguing. I also love driving on route 15 because it's so beautiful.

Eat, Drink & Be Merry

We stopped off at Springfield Manor Winery/Distillery/Brewery (#springfieldmanor #wineriesinfredericcountymaryland #winery #distillery #brewery) and had a blast. There was live music, lots of tables and also grass to lounge on, which is what we did. Everyone was in masks while in line to get their food and drinks. We tried the charcuterie. Not so great. We learned after this day trip to bring our own picnic of cheeses, crackers, nuts, carrots, celery and apples. It was a beautiful day and a couple was getting married outside the manor house and was fun to watch. Once the world is back to normal, we want to go back and stay overnight at this B&B house.

The Wrap

Finding these covered bridges so close to home is definitely a must-do. It takes you back in history, and makes you appreciate the craftsmanship that was created to ensure these bridges lasted. Route 15 is a beautiful country drive even though it is so close to D.C.

About Us

Peter and Emily are both native Washingtonians, both having grown up in Bethesda, Maryland. Crazily enough, they met online during the 2020 pandemic and have been inseparable ever since. What started out as a "date" day trip within a couple of weeks of meeting each other, turned into something so much more. The two decided they were having so much fun, they did another day trip the next weekend. And soon they realized it was a great escape from the work week to go explore places within a couple of hours from D.C. It also was a great way to do something outdoors and maintain space during the Covid-19 craziness. What's not to love about being outdoors, getting fresh air and catching the trade winds in your sails... exploring... dreaming... discovering...
