A beautiful Virginia state park with rolling pastures, near the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Take One-Peter

Sky Meadows is a great place for photography. There are beautiful meadows and valleys and it's super picturesque. Being a hiker, I loved hiking the trails. (#skymeadowsstatepark #virginiastateparks #parksnearblueridgemountains)

Take Two-Emily

I absolutely love this state park. It has beautiful farmland with rolling pastures and nice trails, including horse trails. I would love to go back because there are a lot of different hiking trails to explore. It also is a great place to unfold a picnic blanket and relax on a beautiful afternoon.

Eat, Drink & Be Merry

Heading into Virginia for a day trip lends to finding all sorts of places to try, as there are wineries everywhere. (#aspendalewinery #wineriesinvirginia #wineriesnearparisvirginia) We decided on a small but quaint place called Aspen Dale Winery. We shared a flight of whites and a flight of reds. It was nice because they had a tasting of sausages, cheeses, and chocolates that had been paired for each wine.

The Wrap

If you like driving down small, country roads and enjoy farm-like settings and rolling pastures, this state park is for you. This will definitely be a park we will go back to! There are wineries all over the place and you could try a bunch of them. Just make sure someone is the DD!!

About Us

Peter and Emily are both native Washingtonians, both having grown up in Bethesda, Maryland. Crazily enough, they met online during the 2020 pandemic and have been inseparable ever since. What started out as a "date" day trip within a couple of weeks of meeting each other, turned into something so much more. The two decided they were having so much fun, they did another day trip the next weekend. And soon they realized it was a great escape from the work week to go explore places within a couple of hours from D.C. It also was a great way to do something outdoors and maintain space during the Covid-19 craziness. What's not to love about being outdoors, getting fresh air and catching the trade winds in your sails... exploring... dreaming... discovering...
